- Ages: 3–5 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: low
- Time: prep 20 min, activity 1 hr
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class · one batch serves about 1 kids
- Skills: letter-recognition, uppercase-lowercase-matching, fine-motor, visual-discrimination, handwriting

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 sheet Bubble wrap with large bubbles
- 2 piece Permanent markers
- Tape (optional) (household)

## Safety
- An adult (or older child) writes the letters with permanent markers. Let the ink dry before little ones handle the wrap.
- Bubble wrap is a plastic sheet. Supervise young children, keep it away from faces and heads, and put it away after play.

## Before you start
- Write the letters on the bubble wrap before kids arrive so the marker ink is dry. An older child can help.

## Steps
1. Lay a sheet of large-bubble bubble wrap on the table, bubbles up.
2. Write a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters with permanent markers, one letter per bubble.
3. Sit down with the kids and call out a letter.
4. Spot the uppercase letter and pop it.
5. Hunt for the matching lowercase letter and pop that one too.
6. Try different ways to POP the bubbles.
7. Keep calling out letters until all the matches are popped.

## Tips
- If you have an older child, he/she can help write the letters. It's a great way to practice writing. My 5 year old enjoys helping me set up activities for her sister.
- Matching each uppercase letter to its lowercase partner is an in-built I-Spy game, which is always fun for the little ones.
- We taped the wrap on our window, but it was a bit difficult to pop the bubbles without holding them with both hands. A flat table works better for popping.
- Just a plain old bubble wrap and permanent markers gave us an hour of alphabet popping fun.

## The original post by TurkeyMom (2013)

This is going to be a super quick post. The 3 year old has been so very psyched about recognizing letters and matching the upper case and lower case ones. We recently did another alphabet activity for kids [**- alphabet memory game**](https://www.funlittles.com/alphabet-games-for-kids-memory-match/) with just cups and magnetic letters. In this alphabet activity, we used used a plain old bubble wrap and permanent markers for an hour long alphabet popping fun. So what did we do? I took out one my bubble wraps with large bubbles and wrote down a mix of upper case and lower case letters with permanent markers. If you have an older child, he/she can help- great way to practice writing. My 5 year enjoys helping me set up activities for her sister. { like this [**alphabet city mat**](https://www.funlittles.com/alphabet-activities-alphabet-city/)} Then invite your eager monkey to pop the letter bubbles. I sat down with her and her sister and I started calling out the letters. My 3 year old would spot the upper case letter first and pop it.. Then she would hunt for the matching lower case letter to pop again. An in-built I-Spy game which is always fun for the little ones. We also tried different ways to POP! She had me tape the wrap on our window before we started the activity. However it was a bit difficult to pop the bubbles without holding them with both her hands.
