# Active Disk Painting
> Dip a squishy sensory ball in paint, then bounce it off a stretchy Ogo sports disk so it lands on butcher paper and leaves sun-like prints. It's an outdoor art activity that doubles as a hand-eye coordination game.
- URL: https://www.funlittles.com/art-activities-active-disk-painting/
- Ages: 3–7 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: high
- Time: prep 10 min, activity 30 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group
- Skills: gross-motor, hand-eye-coordination, process-art, colors

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece Ogo Sports disks (set of 2)
- 1 piece Squishy sensory ball (spiky or fuzzy)
- Washable kids' paint
- Paper plates (household)
- 3 sheet Butcher paper
- Soap and water (household)
- Water balloons (optional)

## Substitutions
- Instead of squishy ball: Any light-weight squishy ball or plastic ball (The author says the disks work with any kind of light-weight ball.)

## Safety
- Use washable, non-toxic kids' paint. Paint flies off the ball, so dress kids in old clothes and keep faces back from the landing area.
- Give each child plenty of space so swinging disks and flying balls don't hit anyone.
- Play away from the house. A ball hit too high can land on the roof, and an adult should retrieve it, never a child.
- Painted paper on grass can be slippery. Supervise any running or gymnastics on it.
- If you try the water balloon variation, pick up all balloon pieces right away. Broken balloons are a choking hazard for young children.

## Steps
1. Lay a few sheets of butcher paper over a large area of grass.
2. Warm up by bouncing the ball on the disk like a trampoline. Say "boing!"
3. Pour some paint onto a paper plate, one color per plate.
4. Dip the squishy ball in the paint.
5. Put the ball on your disk and hit it up so it falls onto the paper.
6. Keep hitting, dipping and switching colors until the paper is full of prints.
7. Look at the sun-like prints you made.
8. Wash the disks and ball with soap and water.

## Tips
- Cover a large area with paper. That makes it pretty simple to have the ball fall on the paper.
- Don't hit the ball too high before you start. We lost ours on our roof! Any squishy ball or even a plastic ball will do as a replacement.
- Even missing the ball is part of the fun. The whole game was fantastic for hand-eye coordination.
- Don't worry about the paint-covered disks. A quick wash with soap took care of it, and they looked super clean and ready to get paint or mud covered again.
- The spiky sensory ball turned out to be the perfect paint ball. It made beautiful sun-like prints.

This post is brought to you by **Ogo Sports** Back to school season is around the corner and that sadly means summer is coming to an end. Let's hurry up and have some more [**backyard fun**](https://www.funlittles.com/art-activity-throw-ball-painting/) with this wonderful [**art activity**](https://www.funlittles.com/category/art-projects/) which involves lots of [**movement**](https://www.funlittles.com/art-activities-for-kids-tin-can-roll/) with these wonderful **Ogo Sports Disks.** [**Art activities**](https://www.funlittles.com/category/art-projects/) are fun by themselves but when you add in some large motor exercise it becomes a game, play time and creation time. That's what we did while experimenting with these cool little guys. The fabric around the rubber is quite stretchy and as the package says they are trampolines for the squishy sensory ball that came with the package.
Since the kid had too much fun as soon as the package came in, we hit the ball so high that it got lost on our roof! Not to worry, as long as you have any squishy ball or even those plastic balls you are fine. The disks work with any **kind of light weight ball.**. My kid had enjoyed hitting the ball high up and make "boing!" sound - pretending that the ball is on the trampoline. There are so many fun backyard activities you can do with this set of disks.. Make it into a **summer family game.** **Add water balloons** and use the disks to hit the balloons on another family member. Great way to cool off with water. Another fun idea, add watered down paint in the balloons and play **"PAINT BALL" with these disks.**. The disks are really stretchy and gets the ball way high..

This is the kid who got too excited and totally missed making contact with the ball. The whole game was FANTASTIC for her hand eye coordination.

It will not be us if we don't get paint covered and make an art activity out of this. We had the squeezy ball dipped in paint and I laid down a few sheets of butcher paper.

Then it was time to make super fun sensory ball prints on the paper. My daughter tried to hit the ball and have it fall on the paper. I covered a large area so it was pretty simple to have the ball fall on the paper.

The [**active art activity**](https://www.funlittles.com/art-activities-for-kids-tin-can-roll/) created some beautiful sun-like prints. The sensory ball turned out to be the perfect replacement for the original ball , sadly on our roof.

After a fun afternoon of active art activities, our Ogo sports disk looked supremely paint covered. I was a little worried. Just a little! True to my husband's words do we somehow manage to get every item around the house paint covered?

In this case it turned out that I did not have to worry. A quick wash with soap and cover took care of the paint. They looked super clean and ready to get paint or mud covered !

So you thought we were done. Ha! We had so some paint left over and my gymnast of a preschooler practiced her recently learned tricks on the grass with paint. Yeah why don't you try some gymnastics painting with your little ones.
