- Ages: 3–6 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: medium
- Time: prep 10 min, activity 30 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group
- Skills: gross-motor, fine-motor, hand-eye-coordination, printmaking, colors, collaboration

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece Toy bow and arrow set with rubber-ended arrows
- Kids paint (washable)
- Paper plates (household)
- 1 sheet Large sheet of white paper
- Tape (household)

## Safety
- Use only toy arrows with soft rubber or suction-cup ends, and shoot only at the paper target, never toward people, faces or pets.
- An adult supervises the whole time, especially while kids are shooting.
- Keep anyone not shooting to the side or behind the archer.
- Use washable kids paint and wash hands after.

## Steps
1. Put a few blobs of different colored kids paint on paper plates.
2. Tape a large sheet of white paper to an outdoor wall.
3. Press the rubber end of an arrow into a color of paint.
4. Load the painted arrow on the bow, aim at the paper and shoot.
5. Or hold the arrow and press its painted tip onto the paper to print.
6. Stick a paper plate on the end of an arrow and press it onto the paper to paint.
7. Dip the arrows in new colors and keep printing until the paper is full.

## Tips
- Any kids paint will do!
- My 5 year old pulled a Merida and shot the arrows. My 3 year old enjoyed just printing with them, so younger kids can stamp by hand.
- A great collaborative activity for siblings. Ours had loads of fun giggling while printing with the arrows.
- Painting with plates stuck on the arrow ends was a fun extra.

Active art is such a fantastic way to have the kids engage in art projects. To take advantage of this gorgeous warm weather, we tried this fun and different way to paint and print--Merida style.

We recently purchased **[Merida Archery Bow and Arrow](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008AEXDT8/?tag=blmemo-20)** and the children have been having fun enjoying pretend play. To make the already fun toy more fun we painted with the bows and arrows.

**Setup:**

I set out paper plates with regular paint.Any **kids paint** will do! The children pressed the arrows (with rubber ends) on the different colored paint.

I taped a large sheet of white paper to the backyard wall and my 5 year old pulled a Merida and painted with the archery set.

My 3 year old enjoyed printing with the arrows.

This art project were a great collaborative activity for the sisters and they had loads of fun giggling while printing with the arrows and even painting with the plates with arrows stuck at the end.
