## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece Ivory soap bar
- Toilet paper (household)
- Water (household)
- Plastic Easter eggs (to use as molds)
- Liquid watercolors
- 1 piece Pipettes ("paint squirters")
- 1 piece Blender or food processor (household)
- 1 piece Bowl for the soap dough (household)
- 1 piece Spoon (household)
- 1 piece Platter or tray (household)
- 1 piece Clean-up bowl of water (household)
- 1 piece Craft sticks (optional)

## Substitutions
- Instead of liquid watercolors: Homemade watercolors (dried markers soaked in water) (What the author used before buying liquid watercolors.)

## Safety
- Adult does the microwaving. Watch the soap the whole time it puffs up, and let it cool before kids touch it.
- Adult runs the blender or food processor. Wash it thoroughly afterward.
- Soap is not food. Keep it away from mouths and eyes, and rinse with water if it gets in eyes. Supervise toddlers closely.
- Liquid watercolors can stain hands, clothes and surfaces. Cover the table and use a tray or platter.
- Supervise pipette and craft-stick use with young children.

## Before you start
- Cover the table and set out a platter or tray, the pipettes and the liquid watercolors.
- If the soap dough comes out too soft and gooey, plan for about an hour of drying before kids shape the eggs.

## Steps
1. Adult: microwave a bar of Ivory soap while the kids watch it puff up.
2. Break up the fluffy, crumbly soap and rip a few sheets of toilet paper.
3. Adult: blend the soap, toilet paper and just enough water to grind into a gooey dough.
4. If the dough is too soft, let it dry for about an hour until a bit stiff.
5. Stuff the soap dough into the plastic egg halves.
6. Adult: spoon the soap halves out and press two together to make an egg.
7. Set the eggs on a platter and squirt liquid watercolors over them with pipettes.
8. Squirt different colors onto each other and watch them mix.
9. Let the watercolors dry.
10. Push a craft stick into each egg to make egg lollipops.

## Tips
- Have a clean-up bowl nearby for ease.
- Pop the soap in the microwave in front of the kids. You'll become the "World's best Parent" for letting them watch the magical transformation.
- Stuffing the soap into the eggs is a truly fun sensory experience. For my younger one it was like heaven, and we hadn't even done the paint bit.
- Pipettes are an awesome tool to explore colors, color mixing and absorption.
- Stick with Ivory soap. It probably only works because of its "whipped" nature.

## FAQ
**Does it work with any kind of soap bar?** The author hasn't tried other soaps, but thinks it works only with Ivory because of its "whipped" nature.

## The original post by TurkeyMom (2013)

To be honest, this Easter activity was created because the kids desperately wanted to use the "paint squirters" - my 4 year old's name for pipettes She is totally in love with these that could spend a lot of time squirting paint on paper towels. They are an awesome tool to explore colors, color mixing and absorption. See our **[cotton rounds art](https://www.funlittles.com/art-projects-for-preschoolers-and-toddlers-cotton-rounds-art/)** for inspiration to create with these tiny tools. We have had our share of plastic eggs and regular eggs fun for Easter. How about fragrant soap eggs?

- Toilet Paper
- Plastic Eggs
- Liquid waterolors
- Pipettes

The how-to I hope you know the Ivory Soap trick! If you don't here is the short version. 1. Pop a bar of Ivory Soap in the microwave in front f the kids and become the "World's best Parent" ever for letting them watch the magical transformation of soap. 2. You will be left with a fluffed up giant piece of soap which is crumbly. 3. Rip a few sheets of toilet paper. 4. Add soap, toilet paper and a bit of water(just enough to grind) and grind them in your blender/food processor. 5. You will have a gooey susbtance like the image below.

If the soap is still too soft and goey just let it dry for an hour or so. Once the soap is a bit stiff you can start working on the eggs. The kids stuffed the soap into the plastic eggs. This was a truly fun sensory experience for them. For my younger one, this Easter activity was like heaven and we have not even done the paint bit.

Once all the plastic egg halves were stuffed with soap, I spooned the halves out and attached 2 pieces together to make "close enough" eggs.

With the soap eggs on a platter, it was time to turn this Easter activity into an arty activity. This time we used our very vibrant liquid watercolors. We only recently "bought" liquid water colors since we have been using only our homemade watercolors (dried markers in water trick). But this is money well spent since the colors are phenomenal and fetches a lot of oohs and aahs.

With our pipettes the kids were off squirting water colors over the soap eggs for some cool effects.

Color mixing opportunities.

Our finished eggs

Once the watercolors dried, we inserted some crafts sticks into our eggs and made them into egg lollypops

This soap eggs Easter activtity was sure a big hit at our house.
