- URL: https://www.funlittles.com/easter-egg-decoration-space-eggs/
- Ages: 3–7 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: medium
- Time: prep 10 min, activity 30 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class · one batch serves about 2 kids
- Skills: art, fine-motor, creative-expression
- Cautions: egg, wheat-gluten

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece Hard-boiled white eggs (household)
- Black acrylic paint
- Gold and silver glitter glue
- 1 piece Paint brush
- 1 piece Play dough (household)
- 1 sheet Sheet of paper (household)

## Safety
- Adult hard-boils the eggs and lets them cool completely before kids handle them.
- Decoration only: don't eat eggs that have been painted with acrylic paint and glitter glue, or eggs left out for display.
- Check for egg allergies before kids handle the eggs.
- Most play dough contains wheat. Check for wheat/gluten allergies, or use a wheat-free dough.
- Acrylic paint can stain clothes and surfaces. Cover the table with paper and use smocks.

## Before you start
- Hard-boil the eggs and let them cool completely.
- Cover the table and put out a sheet of paper with a hunk of play dough for each child.

## Steps
1. Press a hunk of play dough onto a sheet of paper.
2. Set the hard-boiled egg on top of the play dough so it stands up.
3. Paint the egg with black acrylic paint, just like a canvas.
4. Turn the paper to paint the other side, without touching the painted parts.
5. Let the paint dry for about 3 minutes.
6. Decorate the black egg with gold and silver glitter glue: dots, lines, stars or swirls.
7. Pile on as much glitter glue as you like for a golden glop egg.
8. Leave the eggs on their play dough stands to dry for a day or two.

## Tips
- Propping the egg on a hunk of play dough on a paper turned out to be a great idea. The kids could paint the egg like a canvas without touching the painted parts, and just turn the paper to paint the other side.
- There's no rhyme or reason to it. My 3 year old just started applying the glitter glue over the black eggs.
- My 5 year old wanted a very uniform and clean patterned egg, while my 3 year old's only mission was to empty the glitter glue bottle on the egg, at the same place!
- When you let the glitter glue dry for a day or two, it flattens out and leaves a beautiful shimmer print.

Easter eggs decorations with kids don't have to be hard and complicated. Today's Easter project shows you the simplest way to decorate eggs for Easter with your kids. Propping the hard boiled egg on a hunk of play dough which in turn was placed on a paper turned out be a great idea. My kids were able to paint the egg like a canvas without having to touch the egg on the painted parts. When they wanted to paint the other side, all they had to do was to turn the paper. Turn it and start painting the other side of the egg. Once the paint dried (which took about 3 minutes - we used black acrylic paint) all we did was to decorate the Easter eggs with gold and silver glue and make them space eggs. There wasn't any rhyme or reason while decorating Easter eggs with kids. My 3 year old just stared applying the glitter glue over the black eggs. She loved this golden glop egg. While my 5 year old wanted to achieve a very uniform and clean patterned egg my 3 year old's only mission was to empty the glitter glue bottle on the egg { at the same place!} When you let the glitter glue dry for a day or two the glue just flattens out leaving a beautiful shimmer print. Lots of shiny dots on this space egg.
