# Spooky Googly-Eye Wreaths
> Toddlers paint the rim of a paper plate, then glue on googly eyes of all sizes to make a spooky Halloween wreath. An adult cuts out the center and adds a ribbon for hanging.

- Ages: 2–5 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: medium
- Time: prep 15 min, activity 20 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class · one batch serves about 1 kids
- Skills: fine-motor, patterns, counting, creativity
- Cautions: ingestion-risk

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece White paper plate (household)
- Washable paint
- 1 piece Paintbrush
- Googly eyes, assorted sizes
- 1 piece White school glue
- 1 piece Scissors (adult) (household)
- 1 piece Hole punch (household)
- Decorative Halloween ribbon
- 1 piece Small bowl for googly eyes (optional) (household)

## Substitutions
- Instead of paper plate: White Styrofoam plate (Needs acrylic paint instead of washable paint.)

## Safety
- Googly eyes are small parts and a choking hazard. Supervise toddlers closely and keep the bowl of eyes within adult reach.
- Adult does the cutting and hole punching.
- Use washable paint on paper plates. Acrylic paint, needed for Styrofoam plates, can stain clothes and skin, so use smocks.

## Before you start
- Ideally, cut the center out of each plate before any painting or gluing, leaving just the rim.
- Cover the table with paper or a plastic cloth for painting.

## Steps
1. Paint the edge of the white plate in any color you like.
2. Let the paint dry.
3. Set out a bowl of googly eyes in different sizes.
4. Squeeze a dot of glue on the painted rim and press a googly eye onto it.
5. Keep gluing eyes all the way around. Try a pattern or count them if you like.
6. Let the wreath dry for a bit.
7. Adult: if the center is still there, cut it out so only the rim is left.
8. Adult: punch a hole at the top and thread a Halloween ribbon through it.
9. Hang your spooky wreath and enjoy!

## Tips
- Cutting out the rim before any gluing would be ideal.
- If you use a paper plate, washable paints are better. A Styrofoam plate needs acrylic paints.
- Gluing the googly eyes to the paper plate is a wonderful fine motor exercise.
- Encourage kids to follow a pattern, or leave it as it is. Anything goes! Keep it as open-ended as possible. For reluctant learners, it's a good chance to explore patterns and counting.

Such a fun Halloween craft today! Remember our Holiday themed [**Christmas toddler craft**](https://www.funlittles.com/christmas-crafts-for-kids-christmas-wreath/) we did last year? Probably not. Here it is just in case. We did a Halloween version of it with just a few basic craft supplies Use a white paper/Styrofoam plate and paint the edges. If you use a paper plate, washable paints would be better. Styrofoam plate needs acrylic paints. The kids can paint the edges using any color ( Hallowwen themed color if you prefer) Once the edges dry, set out googly eyes of various sizes. Have the kids glue the eyes to the edges. Cut out the edge before or after the eyes are glued on. Cutting out the rim before any gluing would be ideal. Gluing the googly eyes to the paper plate is a wonderful **[fine motor exercise.](https://www.funlittles.com/category/fine-motor-activities/)** You can also encourage the kid to follow a pattern or leave it as it is. Anything goes. Trying to keep the activity as open ended as possible or for reluctant learners, this will be good chance to get them to explore [**patterns, counting etc.**](https://www.funlittles.com/category/math-play/) Let them dry for bit.. Cut the rim out and make the actual wreath. Punch a hole on the top and weave through a decorative Halloween themed ribbon. Looks pretty! Hang it and enjoy!
