- Ages: 3–6 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: low
- Time: prep 5 min, activity 15 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class
- Skills: fine-motor, folding, drawing, creativity

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece Basket coffee filters
- 1 piece Black marker (household)
- 1 piece Hole punch
- String or sewing thread (household)
- 1 piece Fallen tree branch (optional)
- 1 piece Stapler (optional) (household)
- White paint (optional)
- Glow-in-the-dark paint (optional)
- 1 sheet Black poster board (optional)

## Substitutions
- Instead of thread: Yarn (The post says string or yarn works too. Sewing thread is the lightest and least visible.)

## Safety
- Adult handles the stapler if you choose to staple the cones. Staples are small and sharp.
- Help little ones with the hole punch so fingers don't get pinched.
- Supervise children around string and thread, and hang finished ghosts out of reach of babies and toddlers.
- If you collect a fallen branch, an adult should check it for sharp points, splinters and bugs before bringing it inside.

## Before you start
- Optional: find a fallen tree branch to display the finished ghosts.

## Steps
1. Fold a basket coffee filter in half.
2. Fold it in half once more to make a cone.
3. Adult (optional): staple the cone so the edges don't fly.
4. Draw a cute, non-scary ghost face with the black marker.
5. Punch a hole above the face with the hole punch.
6. Thread a piece of string, yarn or sewing thread through the hole.
7. Hang your little ghosties from a fallen tree branch to display them.

## Tips
- We used sewing thread to make the thread as light and "invisible" as possible. Ha!
- Those holes made by the puncher gave the ghosts additional charm!
- The whole craft can be done on a much larger scale with a bigger tree branch and many more ghosties.
- For indoor decor, lay a black poster board behind the branch and draw a full moon and a flying bat. Ooooohh... spooky.

Our first Halloween craft for the season! Yay! We are kicking off with a super simple and classic Halloween kids craft. **Materials**

- Basket Coffee Filters
- Black Marker
- **[Hole Punch](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001DT3ZE/?tag=blmemo-20)**
- String/Thread
- Fallen Tree branch (optional)

Fold a basket coffee filter into half. Fold it once more to make a cone. You can either staple the cone to make sure the edges don't fly or you can leave it as it is. Have the child draw a cute /non-scary ghost face. Make a hole above the face and thread a string or yarn. We used sewing thread to make the thread as light and "invisible" as possible. Ha!

Those holes made by the puncher gave the ghosts additional charm!

We then found a fallen tree branch and used it as a prop to display our cute little ghosties.

### How to use them?

I can see how this entire craft can be be done on a much larger scale using a larger tree branch and many more ghosties.

Once you have your spooky branch you can use it as a prop for your haunted house theme or simply prop the branch in front of your house in your front lawn for the big night! Don't forget to paint the branch white for extra effect. You can also mix in some glow in the dark paint and pain the eyes using that.

Lay a black poster board behind the branch if possible ( if using indoors as decor ) and draw a full moon and a bat flying. Ooooohh.. Spooky.

You can also string the little ghosties together and make a banner for your party or your mantle.
