Turn leftover painted heart cut-outs and heart stencils into homemade Valentine's Day cards by gluing them onto folded card stock. It's a super simple activity with gorgeous results.

⚠️ Safety first

  • Supervise glue use with younger children. Glue is not for mouthing.

Before the kids arrive

  • Make the Stencils Hearts Valentine art first (see TurkeyMom's original Valentine art post at Heart Stencils Valentine Art). Keep both the heart cut-outs and the stencils.
  • Fold sheets of card stock in half to make card bases.

Steps

  1. Gather the heart stencils and painted heart cut-outs from your stencil heart art.

  2. Set out glue, folded card stock, and the stencils and cut-outs.

  3. Choose your favorite hearts.

  4. Glue the hearts onto the front of a folded card stock card.

  5. Try putting hearts together to make shapes, like two purple hearts for a butterfly.

  6. For a second card, glue a heart stencil (the negative) onto another folded card stock.

  7. Let the glue dry, then give your cards to someone you love.

Tips

  • This one is super short since the activity is so simple, but the results are gorgeous.from the author
  • The folded card stock was a perfect base for this simple card.from the author
  • Don't throw away the stencils! The heart negatives make a second card. All she did was glue the stencil to a folded card stock paper.from the author
  • Let kids see shapes in the hearts. My 5-year-old immediately created a butterfly using 2 purple hearts. That one sees an animal in everything!from the author

Make it your own

  • Combine hearts into animals or butterflies.
  • Try TurkeyMom's other homemade cards: a shiny handprint Valentine's Day card or a straw blown card.

Stencil Heart Valentine Cards: the original post

With Valentine’s day around the corner we realized we hadn’t made any cards this year. Last year we had two homemade Valentine’s day cards the kids had made - a shiny handprint homemeade Valentine’s day card and a straw blown homemade card. This year however we extended our Stencils Hearts Valentine art and made cards. Read our original Valentine art post here. Alright people, this is going to be a super short one since the activity is so simple but the results are gorgeous. I gathered the heart stencils we made along with the bright heart cuts outs my 5 year had very eagerly created.
