# Static Balloon Dice Game
> Roll two dice, add the numbers, then try to stick that many static-charged balloons to your head. It's a calm math-and-science game for a cold, dry winter day.
- URL: https://www.funlittles.com/math-and-science-activity/
- Ages: 3–6 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: low
- Time: prep 12 min, activity 20 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class · one batch serves about 2 kids
- Skills: addition, counting, static-electricity, science

## Materials (one batch)
- 12 piece Balloons, blown up and tied
- 2 piece Dice (household)
- 1 piece Plastic tub or basin to hold the balloons (optional) (household)

## Safety
- Adult blows up and ties the balloons.
- Uninflated balloons and pieces of popped balloons are a choking and suffocation hazard for young children. Pick up every broken piece right away and supervise at all times.
- Most party balloons are latex. Check for latex allergies before playing, especially with a group.
- Dice are small. Supervise children who still mouth objects.
- Static zaps are mild but can startle some kids.

## Before you start
- Blow up and tie the balloons, enough for a roll of 12.
- Pick a cold, dry winter day. Dry air gives the best static.

## Steps
1. Sit on the floor with the balloons and a pair of dice.
2. Roll the two dice.
3. Count the dots on each die and add the numbers together. Fingers help!
4. Rub a balloon on your hair to charge it, then let go so it sticks.
5. Keep going until you have as many balloons stuck on your head as your dice added up to.
6. Count the balloons out loud as you stick them on. Can you hold 'em all?
7. Take turns rolling and play again.

## Tips
- Choose the coldest, driest day. Winter brings a lot of dryness, and that delivers some serious science fun.
- It was a perfect activity to settle the kids down after all their static mayhem and still keep their spirits up.
- Rubbing the balloons on your hair charges them, and that's why they stick to your hair.

## The original post by TurkeyMom (2012)

We are officially ready for Christmas. The tree is up, decorations are done, gifts are wrapped and we are all set. We have hence decided to take a break from crafting and have some serious fun with winter itself . This *Math and Science activity* is a sure hit with your little ones. You can easily turn it into a Math and Science family game night on a cold, dry winter day :-). The one thing that winter brings with it is a lot of dryness and that delivers some serious ***Science fun***. When you walk on a rug and reach for the door knob, remove your hat or my kids fav is to rub their hair on the couch – ZAP ! Yup, I’m talking about STATIC SHOCK ! It’s the one thing I hate (personally) getting zapped around the house but them, it’s a totally different story. My 4 yr old has an uncontrollable laugh every time we get zapped and she thinks its the funniest thing ! Yea … go figure. Big S and lil’s were having so much fun from all the static electricity in the house. They were giving each other some ‘hair raising’ fun by rubbing their heads against the couch. haha ! As we know too much fun brings in too much mayhem, so to calm things a bit I brought in a Math and Science activity with Static Electricity. It was a perfect activity to settle them both down and still keep their spirits up.
