- Ages: 2–8 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: high
- Time: prep none, activity varies

- Skills: sensory-exploration, art, fine-motor
- Cautions: corn, ingestion-risk

## Safety
- Cornstarch comes from corn. Check for corn allergies before playing.
- Taste-safe is not food: an accidental taste of a non-toxic recipe is no cause for panic, but don't let kids eat the paints or doughs. This matters most for look-alike treats such as ice cream dough.
- If a linked recipe needs cooking or hot water, an adult handles the heat and checks that the mixture has cooled before kids touch it.
- Spilled cornstarch and goop make floors and tubs slippery. Wipe up spills, and never leave kids alone in the bath during bathtub painting.
- Supervise sensory play at all times.

## Ideas
- **Homemade Sidewalk Chalk Paint**: A cornstarch paint for sidewalk art, set out in a muffin tin with foam brushes.
- **Taste-Safe Cornflour Finger Paint**: Bright cornflour finger paints stored in jars. The original calls it 'edible'. Treat it as taste-safe, not food.
- **Homemade Face and Body Paint**: A 2-ingredient homemade face and body paint, mixed up in a rainbow of colors.
- **Homemade Bath Tub Paint**: A cornstarch paint for brushing rainbow stripes on the bathtub wall.
- **Cornstarch Clay**: Homemade cornstarch clay shaped into ornaments, then painted and sprinkled with glitter.
- **Oobleck/Goop**: Classic cornstarch goop for science play that oozes and drips through little fingers.
- **Goop on Pinecones**: A fun way to use that oobleck recipe: pour colored goop over pinecones in a tray and watch the pink fountain flow.
- **Erupting Goop**: Glittery pink goop that foams up and erupts over the top of a cup, made as a bath-time 'love potion'.
- **Homemade Modelling Clay**: A 2-ingredient white modelling clay that can air dry or be oven baked. Roll it into letters and shapes.
- **Ice Cream Dough**: A sensory dough that scoops like ice cream into cones, topped with sprinkles. Pretend play only.
- **Cornstarch Snow**: Fluffy cornstarch snowballs for a summer snowball fight. So frugal and fun.
- **Frosty Fluff**: A frosty fluff for snow play.
- **Moldable Play Sand**: A homemade moldable play sand that holds the shape of seashells.

## Tips
- Cornstarch in the U.S. is the same as cornflour in the U.K.
- A homeschool teacher runs a class called 'Cooking Up Some Art' and has made about a dozen different play recipes with the kids. These recipes work well as a group class. (from readers)
