# Valentine Mirror
> Draw a big heart on a dollar store mirror, then cover everything around it with cut-up glitter foam squares stuck on with water or diluted tacky glue. The finished mirror is a homemade Valentine's gift that frames the person looking in it inside a heart.

- Ages: 4–8 yrs · Difficulty: easy · Mess: medium
- Time: prep 10 min, activity 30 min
- Works for: one-on-one, small group, whole class · one batch serves about 1 kids
- Skills: fine-motor, scissor-skills, shapes, gift-making

## Materials (one batch)
- 1 piece Dollar store mirror
- Glitter foam sheets
- Pre-cut colored paper squares (optional)
- 1 piece Permanent marker (household)
- 1 piece Scissors (household)
- Tacky glue
- Water (household)
- 1 piece Paintbrush
- 1 piece Small cup or bowl (household)
- Heart wrapping paper (optional)

## Substitutions
- Instead of glitter foam sheets: Pre-cut colored paper squares (Suggested in the post as an alternative to cutting foam.)
- Instead of tacky glue: Plain water (Foam sticks to glass with just a little water, but some bits fall off after about a day and leave gaps.)

## Safety
- Mirrors are glass. An adult should check each mirror for sharp edges or cracks before handing it out, and kids should keep it flat on the table while they work.
- Supervise scissor use. Give younger kids child-safe scissors.
- Permanent marker doesn't wash out. An adult can draw the heart, or supervise kids closely.
- Tacky glue and small foam bits are not for mouths. Supervise younger children and wash hands after.

## Before you start
- Pick up a mirror for each child. Choose sizes to suit each child's patience and interest level.
- Check each mirror for sharp edges or cracks.

## Steps
1. Draw a big heart in the middle of the mirror with a permanent marker.
2. Cut the glitter foam sheets into small squares or any shapes you like.
3. Brush a tiny bit of water on the back of a foam bit.
4. Stick the foam bit onto the mirror, outside the heart.
5. For a gift that lasts, brush diluted tacky glue on the back of the foam bits instead of water.
6. Keep adding foam bits until the mirror is covered all around the heart. Leave the inside of the heart clear.
7. Let the finished mirror dry flat.
8. Wrap the mirror in heart wrapping paper and add a message.

## Tips
- Choose the mirror size based on your child's (or your) patience and interest level, because covering it takes a lot of fine motor work.
- Did you know that foam sheets stick to glass with just a little bit of water? Yes they do! But some will fall off after a day and leave gaps.
- If you want a more permanent Valentine gift, brush diluted tacky glue on the back of the foam bits.
- We used glitter foam sheets because the kids loved the shine and shimmer of the bright fuchsia sheets.
- Wouldn't your loved ones be so thrilled to see themselves inside a nice big heart on a homemade Valentine's day gift?

### An easy Valentine's day craft using dollar store supplies that sends a beautiful message.

Lots of hearts flying around! Valentine's day is around the corner and we have a simple and colorful project that kids or adults can do.

### [Our collection of Valentine's day crafts here](https://www.funlittles.com/category/holidays/valentines-day-holidays/)

Materials

- Glitter Foam Sheets
- Colored paper squares {optional}
- Dollar Store Mirror
- Permanent Marker
- Tacky glue and water

For this Valentine's craft you just need a good sized mirror. I got a bunch of different sizes from my local dollar store. Based on your child's {or yours} patience and interest level choose a size because we will be doing a lot of fine motor exercises on the mirror.

Grab your $1 mirror and draw a big heart in the middle with a permanent marker.

Next you can either grab your pre cut colored paper squares or foam sheets. We used glitter foam sheets because the kids loved the shine and shimmer of the bright fuschia sheets. Then get some scissor practice by having the children cutup squares or any shapes using the foam sheets.

Now you can either used multi colored cut up shapes or stick to one color and create your Valentine craft. We used cut up foam sheets to cover our mirror around the big heart. Did you know that foam sheets stick to glass with a just a little bit of water? Yes they do! Brush a tiny bit of water on the back of the foam bits and you can simply "stick" them to the mirror. However some of them will eventually { after a day} will fall off leaving gaps in your Valentine Craft. If you want a more permanent Valentine gift, then brush some diluted tacky glue to the back of the foam bits and adhere the bits to the glass.

Once the gift is completed you can wrap the mirror with some cute heart wrapping paper and add a message saying "Mirror, Mirror on the wall, who is my favorite person of them all" or something better {haha}

Wouldn't your loved ones be so thrilled to see themselves inside a nice big heart on a homemade Valentine's day gift?

How would you dress up this gift? Tell me in the comments!
