Turn a Styrofoam bowl into a little Easter basket with a pipe cleaner handle and a construction paper chick or bunny, then fill it with grass for an egg hunt. It is simple enough for younger kids to do almost on their own.
Googly eyes, cotton balls and plastic eggs are small parts. Supervise closely with kids who still mouth things.
Pipe cleaner ends can poke. Twist or tuck the ends after making the handle.
Supervise scissors and the paper punch. An adult may need to punch the holes for younger kids.
Before the kids arrive
Cut a chick shape (head and body in one piece) and bunny ears from card as templates, so kids can trace them.
For younger kids, pre-cut the chick, wing and ear shapes from construction paper.
Steps
Punch two holes on opposite sides of the Styrofoam bowl.
Push a pipe cleaner through the holes and twist the ends to make a handle. Be gentle so the holes don't tear.
Cut a head and body for the chick from yellow paper, plus two wings.
Glue the chick to the front of the bowl and a wing on each side.
For a bunny, glue paper ears to one side of the bowl and a cotton ball tail to the other.
Add the eyes, a beak for the chick and a nose for the bunny.
Fill the basket with Easter grass and go hunting for eggs!
Tips

The story behind it
By TurkeyMom · March 2013
Oh how much we love baskets and bags, not just for Easter. Which kid does not like carrying around a bag with "stuff" inside, feeling very important? Let's create a themed basket today.
I'm always trying to create and re-purpose stuff lying around the house. All you need is Styrofoam bowls, pipe cleaners, construction paper, a paper punch, scissors and glue.
Punch out two holes on either side of a Styrofoam bowl and use a pipe cleaner to create a handle. Be gentle with the handle making, as the holes might tear up.
Create ears and a cotton tail for the bunny, then add the eyes and nose for our Easter animal. Do you see the bunny?
Create a head, body and wings for the chick, and add the eyes and beak. Aren't they cute? This Easter craft requires very minimal effort from parents and kids.
Add the grass and you are ready for the hunt! Shh, we're hunting Easter eggs. Since we are using Styrofoam bowls, gentle should be our mantra!
