Kids measure cinnamon sugar, brush a ready-made dough sheet with butter, then twist strips into churros and cut rings into doughnuts with kid-friendly tools before an adult bakes them for 9-11 minutes. A simple real-cooking activity that helps picky eaters try what they made.

⚠️ Safety first

  • Adult handles the oven and the hot baking sheet. Let the churros and doughnuts cool before kids touch or eat them.
  • The pizza cutter is gentler than a knife but still cuts. Supervise kids using it and the cookie cutter.
  • Real food: the dough contains wheat and the butter is dairy. Check the dough package label for other allergens before serving.
  • Everyone washes hands before handling the dough.

Steps

  1. Adult: preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. Measure 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tsp cinnamon into a bowl and stir to make cinnamon sugar.

  3. Adult: melt 2 tbsp butter in a small bowl.

  4. Unroll the dough sheet and cut it into 4 rectangles with the pizza cutter.

  5. Brush melted butter on all 4 rectangles, then sprinkle the cinnamon sugar evenly with a measuring spoon.

  6. Churros: stack two rectangles, cut them into strips along the longer side, and twist each strip a couple of times.

  7. Doughnuts: stack the other two rectangles, press the 1-cup measuring cup down to cut circles, then cut a hole in each with the small cookie cutter.

  8. Lay the churros, doughnuts and little cut-out circles on the baking sheet. Adult: bake at 350°F for 9-11 minutes.

  9. Let the treats cool, then enjoy what you made.
