Kids press whole ink pads onto cardstock to stamp colorful squares stacked like a leaning tower of blocks. Then letters go in the squares to spell 'I LOVE U MOM'. A simple, arty card that toddlers and preschoolers can make.

⚠️ Safety first

  • Ink pads and markers are not food. Keep them out of mouths and supervise toddlers closely.
  • The finger printing set pictured is labeled 3+ and carries a small-parts warning. Supervise younger children closely and keep small parts away from them.
  • Ink can transfer to hands, clothes and tables. Cover the work surface and wash hands afterward.
  • Baby version: wash and dry the toy blocks first, and use a taste-safe paint.

Steps

  1. Set out a sheet of cardstock and the ink pads.

  2. Take a whole ink pad and press it face down on the card to make a square print. Use the entire stamp instead of your fingers.

  3. Press the next color just above the first square, a little off to the side, so the squares look like a leaning tower of blocks.

  4. Keep switching colors and stacking squares until the tower has 6 squares.

  5. Stamp 3 more squares in a row at the bottom of the card.

  6. Let the ink dry.

  7. Write one letter in each square with the fine-line marker to spell I LOVE U in the tower and MOM along the bottom.

  8. Give the card to Mom!

  • We did not have more than three colors, but a few more colors would have made the card even more colorful.from the author
  • It's not just for little ones. Anyone can join in, since it's really fun to make the prints.from the author

Make it your own

  • For older babies who can sit up and hold things: dip squishy toy blocks (washed and dried) in paint and print. Try the author's no-flour finger paint or taste-safe apple paints, and adjust the paint's consistency so the blocks dip well.
  • Use paint instead of ink pads.
  • Add more ink colors for an even more colorful card.
  • Stamp the squares in any arrangement you like. It doesn't have to be a tower of blocks.

Stamped Mother's Day Card: the original post

Another homemade card mother’s day craft here. We have shared our process art turned into mother’s day card with a mother and child silhouette and our up cycled CD and plastic eggs “out of this world” homemade gift for mom. This one is really simple and is more arty than craft. A big plus for this craft is that this is great for toddlers and preschoolers. Materials

We used our fingerprint stamps we had at home but paint will also work. Details below.

supplies

The process is self explanatory folks. Grab the stamps and instead of using your fingers, take the entire stamp and start making prints. This kids project is extra special for me since my daughters came up with it together. {When did they grow up!?}

Your little toddler or preschooler (or anyone really since its really fun to make the prints) can start making stamps resembling a leaning tower of blocks. It really doesn’t have to blocks but ours ended up like that and it really fit the theme. We did not have more than three colors but I suppose a few more colors would have made the mother’s day card even more colorful.

mothers card

Such a simple way to show your love for mom.

One of the easiest art projects we have shared.

A good way to adapt this homemade card activity for a baby How sweet would the card be if your cute baby had a go at it! With some effort older babies ( ones that can sit up and hold on to things) can also participate. Since the stamps are too small for baby hands to grab comfortably, I would probably use a bunch of squishy blocks from your child’s toy bin ( washed and dried of course). Dip them in some paint and PRINT! If you are looking for some taste safe paint recipes try our no flour finger paint recipe (maybe little hard to dip the blocks but you can adapt the consistency of the paint based on the need)or try our taste safe apple paints
